Regional Working Group on Water Quality Holds Annual Meeting
On 10 December 2025, the Regional Working Group on Water Quality (RWG-WQ) convened in Astana, Kazakhstan, gathering representatives of government agencies, hydrometeorological services, universities, international organizations, and water quality experts from across Central Asia.
Established in 2009 by UNECE and CAREC, the Regional Working Group on Water Quality serves as a regional platform for dialogue, technical cooperation, and experience exchange on water quality management and monitoring.
Representatives of Central Asian countries shared updates on national water quality management systems, joint surface water monitoring initiatives, and progress in inter-country cooperation.
A central focus of the meeting was the discussion of the strategic vision for the development of the RWG-WQ and the proposed Action Plan for 2025–2029.
The meeting concluded with presentations from international and regional partners, highlighting ongoing and planned initiatives in the field of water quality.
